1831 – 1918

Russian artist and painter of German origin, scholar at the Imperial Academy of Arts. Painter of hunting scenes.

Born in 1831 in Berlin, in 1854 he graduates at the Academy of Fine Arts of Berlin. In 1857 he moves to St. Petersburg, where he paints portraits on order. Among his works there are portraits of the grand dukes Nikolai Nikolaevich, Vladimir Alexandrovich and other members of the imperial Russian family. He was known as an animal painter. Awarded with the title of Free Honorary Associate of Imperial Academy of Arts (1885). Awarded with the title of scholar (1912).

He died on December 28, 1918.
