Dordrecht, 12 October 1642 – 11 June 1722
Abraham van Calraet (also van Kalraat) was a Dutch painter.
A painter of landscapes, still lifes and portraits, he is essentially a faithful continuator of Aelbert Cuyp, of whom he was probably a pupil, as well as of Philips Wouwerman. His Stable Interiors are very instructive in this regard, an example of which is preserved in London at the National Gallery.
He was long confused with Aelbert Cuyp, in particular as an animal painter, especially since the initials A. C. with which he signed could lend themselves to confusion; numerous examples of such erroneous assimilations, now corrected, are found in London (National Gallery and Wallace Collection) and in the museums of Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
